As an employee at an academic institute, it is always a pleasure to provide help and support to its students, who are seeking for knowledge regardless of their beliefs, thoughts and affiliation. Since our area went through wars, political turmoil and ISIS breakthrough, the citizen had suffered from displacement and had to leave their own home to a more peaceful place. This is why Duhok became the save heaven which welcomes refugees and IDPs since 2013-2014.
The UoD has 1000 (more or less) refugees& IDPs students. They have been through a lot of difficult situations leaving their own city, and this has affected their psychological status. Also they suffer from losing their official documents and credentials. Beside they have to deal with people of different culture and languages.
In my opinion, R-SOS Unit will help the refugees& IDPs in their academic path and academic excellence. The unit will not be able directly to give help if the refugees& IDPs students need urgent psychological and traumatological problems, but can guide them to the right place for treatment.
The R-SOS provides languages courses and basic skills and some vocational course. The well trained staff of the unit will do the best to improve the situation of the refugees& IDPs as active citizen in the future.
